Didcot Railway Centre

A display of cash railway equipment, partly from the collection of Robin Adcroft, has been set up by Thomas Macey in the shop at Didcot Railway Centre. There is a video of the basket carrier on YouTube

Lamson basket carrier and propulsion. It uses two wires - the upper one supports the car and the lower one is for safety to avoid the car crashing to the ground.
The carrier came from a department store in Kansas City, USA and was said to date from 1905. The wire basket and leather cup are replacements.

There are two cords, one for raising and lowering the basket and one for propelling the car. There is a safety mechanism in case the operator pulls the "launch"cord with the basket down.

Mock-up of the carrier being used to serve a customer.

The pneumatic tube terminal is stand alone - not connected up to a tube system.

A Kelly car and cup on static display.
